The energy mix of renewable energies in the Valais is largely influenced by large-scale hydroelectricity and its dams, which are very numerous in the Valais. However, new renewable energies such as photovoltaic, biomass, mini-hydro and wind power are making great strides. In Switzerland, large-scale hydroelectricity accounts for only half of the production of renewable energy.
